Jodhpur Events & Festivals
-
Jodhpur is home to several astounding events each year, yet the Marwar Festival retains the image of being, by far, the most memorable and popular of all. This grand occasion is held in September or October of each year, and is featured at three of the city’s main prides: the Umaid Bhawan Palace, Mandore and Mehrangarh Fort. It is celebrated in honor of Rajasthan’s historic heroes, and the 2 day event features folk music and dance performances, a camel tattoo show, polo games, and live theatre plays reenacting the battles and lives of the heroes. Jodhpur also recognizes the Jodhpur International Desert Kite Festival as another significant festival to the city. Kite flyers from around the country all gather in Jodhpur during this 3-day festival in January. Jodhpur is also home to the very unique, very popular fair known as Nagaur Fair. Held in January or February each year for 8 days, the Nagaur Fair is the city’s prideful cattle fair – and one of the largest to ever exist! Approximately 70,000 bulls, camels and horses are bought, sold and auctioned during this time. Aside from the main feature of the animals, this fair also includes the renowned Mirchi Bazaar, selling excited tourists and locals items such as wooden, iron and camel artifact, Jodhpuri fabrics, and red chili peppers. Join Jodhpur during the Nagaur Fair and witness once in a lifetime excitement and activities such as juggling, puppeteers, storytelling and live theatre, and endless sport events.
